Speaking at the Iowa Memorial Union on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, Rachel Corrie's father Craig remembered taking his daughter to work when she was eight years old, and having a co-worker ask what she wanted to be when she grew up. 

"She looked him straight in the eye and said 'I AM a poet'" Craig recalled, smiling.

Artists from across the Midwest gathered along the Iowa River in Iowa City this past weekend for the RiverBank Art Fair hosted by the UI Fine Arts Department. As a part of the University of Iowa RiverFest, the art fair was featured on Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27 from 10 am to 5 pm. University of Iowa students were joined by residents of Iowa City as everyone braved the windy weather to enjoy the displays of paintings, metal work, wood pieces and jewelry.  Suzanne La Tour Stevens' jewelry was one of the most popular booths on display at the RiverBank Art Fair.

On Thursday night, the red and brown brick façade at 211 Iowa Avenue seemed to be missing something...something bright. In fact, the front wall of the building had been missing its neon orange and green “The Q Bar” sign since January when the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division suspended the bar’s liquor license after a decision in November by the Iowa City City Council to deny renewal of the establishment’s liquor license due to lack of cooperation with local law enforcement and inconsistency in managerial positions.

“Our bodies, our choice,” this is a phrase that was written on the arms and bodies of people opposing abortion protesters last week.  This is also a phrase that sparked the mind that took his voice to a new level.

David Goodner, a student at the University of Iowa who is graduating next December, has been in the news for his “impulsive” actions.  However, it should be clarified that the events of last Monday the 21st have no association with his involvement in the Anti-War Committee.
